Despite winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025, this indie title has been disqualified from receiving any awards at another event due to AI.

An indie game developer has made a passionate plea to gamers on social media after outing someone on Steam who pirated their title. On the Steam page for Farthest Frontier, a city building and survival simulation game from indie developer Crave Entertainment,

Gen-AI showed up in the year’s biggest releases including game of the year.

As of 2025, there is no longer a good time to release a game. There are simply too many games coming out every day, so you're always going to rub shoulders with something. That said, there are still bad times to release games, dictated no longer by the calendar but those drifting icebergs.

In a candid moment on stage, Guillaume Broche of Sandfall Interactive quipped, "What a weird timeline for us," as his small team accepted the top honour. The victory was particularly stunning given the competition; the studio squared up against industry heavyweights like Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding 2 and Nintendo's Donkey Kong Bananza.
